My background is.... ?

I’m a Black MacKenzie from Kirkintilloch raised in Glasgow's Royston Hill on Rhymer Street in the Garn' Gadd district by my Mother Margaret & loving protective neighbors who were great mentors.

I felt/feel farthest from Home.......

In Kansas City I was 12 & went for a haircut. I was told "We don't cut your kind of hair downtown. Go to a barber with your own kind." I felt very far from Scotland where pals would’ve defended me.

For me, Home is...

A place where there's love & true feelings. The scene: clean- fitba' cheering Pals & Gals, coal fire, malt, ginger beer & neighbors who know it's good to find a dream like yours, like mine, like Home

I remember as a child........

Mom sang with Duke in the UK. As a colored kid, his band loved to cuddle me. At Duke’s turn I screamed- he looked like a bad comic character- slicked back hair & white teeth. He never lived it down.
